Equity Group Foundation has awarded 750 of Kenya’s brightest students from the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations a coveted spot in its annual scholarship and internship program. The selected students will undergo a six-month pre-university internship at Equity Bank branches across the country before embarking on their university education later this year.

The cohort comprises 350 students who attained mean grades of A and A-, 167 top achievers from each sub-county who secured a grade A (plain), and an additional 233 students who scored a mean grade of A (84 points). This initiative aims to equip these high-achieving students with practical workplace experience while nurturing financial discipline and leadership skills.

Throughout the internship, participants will receive a monthly stipend, a portion of which will be set aside as savings and disbursed upon their transition to university, instilling a culture of financial responsibility. Additionally, they will benefit from mentorship and career guidance from industry professionals, empowering them to make informed decisions about their academic and professional futures.

Equity Group Foundation’s Executive Chairman, Dr. James Mwangi, emphasized the program’s role in shaping future leaders. “This initiative not only provides hands-on work experience but also instills leadership and entrepreneurial skills, preparing these young scholars to be catalysts for positive change in their communities,” he said.

Among the beneficiaries is Dieume Baraka, a former student of Starehe Boys Centre, who shared his aspirations: “I hope to pursue a university course that will enable me to contribute to the healing and transformation of my community and beyond.”

The Equity scholarship and internship program has long been regarded as a stepping stone for Kenya’s top-performing students, offering them invaluable exposure to the corporate world while reinforcing their academic and career ambitions. Through this initiative, Equity Group continues to invest in Kenya’s next generation of leaders, fostering a legacy of excellence and social impact.
